Memorial Held for Will Schlotec at Amity Creek

He was such a great kid, and I feel like this is the least I could do for what he did to my life," said Callaway. She was hoping people would see the message and come out to remember Will.  "We tried to get as many people out here as we could," said Callaway.  Around 100 people showed up to the place where Will lost his life.  Flowers were placed around a makeshift memorial sight with a cross planted in Will's honor. People wrote messages on the cross to remember him. Will was a lacrosse player at Duluth East High School. "He was so gifted in everything he did," said Callaway. Hunter Brinkman knew Will, and last saw him five days ago on the Lakewalk at Canal Park. "It's just sad knowing that the place I come to took his life," said Brinkman.  He says Will's smile is what he is going to miss most. "His smile was super contagious," said Brinkman. Nakeya Rolin who also knew Will, says he was always looking to turn someone's day around. "Every time he would see somebody in the hall, if they looked sad he would make their day better," said Rolin. Brinkman believes it is important to try and remember the good times in the midst of sadness. "If you don't laugh, it's just all sadness and it's just going to last forever," said Brinkman. He says having a positive mindset is the key to moving on. "Instead of missing him, know that he's in a better place," said Brinkman. A visitation will take place for Will on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at noon. Both will take place at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Duluth.  ... (WDIO-TV)
